Obligation of writers

Social

Writers have social responsibilities to abide to, for example writers must not discriminate anyone based on their race, sexual orientation, gender, etc. so they have to remember to be cautious on what they’re writing because it is going public and members of the public can be sensitive towards certain topics, writers also have to be aware of the fact that their articles could be read by minors and people who have been a victim of discrimination themselves. Writers have a responsibility to tell the truth! If an article is prejudice or biased, factually incorrect writing makes for an ignorant readership. My blog post on SUPPORTING gay marriage could cause offence to some people because not everybody supports what is important to me and because it’s such a strong subject it can be very likely to cause controversy.

Discrimination – “The press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference or details to an individual's race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability unless genuinely relevant to the story”
An example of this was when Actress Ellen Page came out as gay an article was written about her by E! Saying she dresses like a “Massive man”

                                 Legal

Writers have legal responsibilities to abide to, they must AVOID Defamation/libel and must print apologies if they commit the following..
Libel- “A published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation; a written defamation”
An example of this is Chris Jefferies was arrested for the murder of landscape architect ‘Jo Yeates’ and vilified by the press even after he was cleared’
Contempt of court- journalists are not allowed to write articles that are biased or unjust about a case that might sway the jury to believe otherwise, paying witnesses in trial for information, revealing names of children and info that is sub-judice.

Children – “A child under 16 must not be interviewed or photographed on issue involving their own or another child’s welfare unless a custodial parent or similarly responsible adult consents. Minors must not be paid for material involving children’s welfare, nor parents or guardians for material about their children or wards, unless it is clearly in the child’s interest. Editors must not use the fame, notoriety or position of a parent or guardian as sole justification for publishing details of a child’s private life.”
Writing should not violate laws of copyright for example (be thieved from someone else’s copyrighted work without proper permission)
Revealing information that was told in strict confidence by confidential sources or that threatens national security
Confidential Sources- Journalists have a moral obligation to protect confidential sources of information.

Ethical
Writes have a duty to obey the codes of practice and obey the law regarding privacy, intrusion and harassment in getting their stories.
Privacy – “Editors will be expected to justify themselves if they have made intrusions in to an individual’s private life without consent. Account will be taken of the complainant’s own public disclosure of information It is unacceptable to photograph individuals in private places without their consent.”
Harassment – “Journalists must not engage in intimidation, harassment or persistent pursuit”
As has recently revealed newspapers have not been doing this effectively at all
An example of invading someone’s privacy is that the singer ‘Pink!’ attacks the paparazzi for invading her baby’s privacy, she called on the media to not take or publish pictures of her daughter, and she quotes
‘Like any parents we believe our little girl deserves the right to have privacy and be protected, but unfortunately, this media climate does not seem to provide for that’

Malaysian  plane goes missing

On Friday 7th of March flight MH370 vanished with 239 people on board after taking off from Kuala Lampur at 12.41 am and its last position was known at roughly 1.20am, around 40 minutes in to flight, Malaysian officials failed to clarify the aircrafts last known movements.
India has joined the search widening the net to an area near the Andaman Sea whilst Vietnam has said to have halted its air search while it waits for Malaysia to offer more detail quote “we’ve decided to temporarily suspend some search and rescue activities, pending information from Malaysia” – Vietnam’s deputy minister, Pham Quy Tieu, told AFP.
Vietnam was asked about the claim that the plane had last been detected over Strait of Malacca, suggesting it had crossed the entire peninsula, “’we’ve asked Malaysian authorities twice so far but they have not replied to us”

Malaysia’s head of civilization ‘Azharuddin Abdul Rahman’ was asked why crews were searching the Strait of Malacca, to which he replied ‘there are some things I can tell you and some things I can’t’
He also described the disappearance as an ‘unpredicted mystery’
Relatives of the passengers asked what information the military had given civil officials and the Chinese government has told them “now is not the time to reveal it” although he did disclose that the last words heard from the flight were “All Right, good night” this was the crews response to Malaysian air traffic controllers who had currently told them the plane was entering Vietnamese air space so controllers from Ho Chi Minh city would take over.
Tan Sri Rodzali Daud said that when the plane was detected at 2.40 near Pulau Perak the signal was lost, but a military officer said the lane changed course after Kota Bharu and took a lower altitude, it then made it in to Malacca strait but never made a distress call when they didn’t inform pilots that they were going to change course.
Dan Macchiarella, chair of the aeronautical department at Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University Florida said that “if a jet at such high altitude had engine problems it might still be able to glide ‘for a very long distance’ given the altitude and speed’ he then added ‘it’s pretty baffling ,whatever happened on that flight deck , the pilots did not do what pilots do. They aviate, they navigate and they communicate. If something happens at altitude, the first thing they want to do is … squawk emergency.

Sweet Serendipity

Freedom of speech? Freedom of sexuality? Freedom of living?

In today's society being gay is frowned upon . This makes me sick to my stomach.  It angers me to think that people are criticized and bullied for who they love and who they want to marry. Currently there is only a smidgen of countries that 'accept' gay marriage and have legalized it,before this a 'civil partnership' was only allowed.
ONLY ALLOWED!?

What's the difference between a normal heterosexual couple to same sex couples: nobody goes around slating opposite sex couples for being together so what harm is this doing to the world? Marriage is about love not what is acceptable in the public eye, gender identity and sexual orientation are aspects of lives and this shouldn't ever lead to us being discriminated because of it.

Gay rights and the right to be married when you're the same sex brings around lot of chaos and opinions. All around the world this is happening. Not everyone is in the know with what's happening. I am in no way an expert but i for one know the way some countries around the world are 'dealing' with LGBT is not right.

LGBT is all around the world and its not accepted everywhere. Countries go to extreme extents to stop this 'behavior' from taking place on their home turf, the extents can be from torture, killing and executions, arrests under unjust laws, censorship, medical abuses, domestic violence, unequal treatment, discrimination in health, jobs and housing, denial of family rights and recognition and abuse against children due to how citizens have decided to live their lives, how they look and who they love which means they've most probably dismayed laws and religious views alongside being who they are.

Although all of this is happening progress in being made in some areas of the world from allowing civil partnerships to leagalising same sex marriage, the dates below show when same sex marriage was legalised in which countries.

2014-Scotland
2013-England,Wales,France,New Zealand,Uruguay,Brazil,Israel
2012-Denmark
2010-Argentina,Iceland,Portugal,Mexico
2009- Sweden,Norway
2006-South Africa
2005-Spain,Canada
2003-Belgium
2000-The Netherlands

There is a big difference between marriage and civil partnerships if you weren't aware..

Financial rights-

  • 'pension rights are not the same,if one civil partner dies the pension share that the other receives if often lower and lasts for less time than for those who're married, reason being for this is because it depends on whether they were married or in a civil partnership, but married couples are entitled to the pension based on the number of years their spouse payed in to the pension fund...' ridiculousness
Separate is not equal-
'Not all straight people are married but that option is legally there for them .' it should be there for EVERYONE
  • Its a way of belonging to a cultural group, being seen as acceptable 'Belonging?!'
  • Marriage carries a social weight that civil partnerships do not, those who back equal marriage say 'using a different word indicated that society attaches less importance to civil partnerships'  nobody is of less importance,we're all human
Living abroad-
  • Travel restrictions apply to civil partnerships but not married couples
  • countries like Sweden,Argentina and Portugal where same-sex marriage is legal do not see civil partnerships as marriage, this means UK civil partners living abroad do not enjoy the same rights as same-sex married couples in the countries where gay marriage is legal. Whatever happened to Human rights,we're all equal
  • In addition the marriages of foreign gay couples who travel to the UK are not legally viewed as marriages.
  • Gender  -
  • if a married trans person would like to get a gender recognition certificate to live as their preferred gender then they must get a divorce and reapply for a civil partnership. so you're telling me that to be seen as whatever gender you'd like whilst you are married that you have to get a DIVORCE to then get a civil partnership because its not seen as right? whaaaaaat!
  • Separate marriage and civil partnership regulations mean gender and orientation are the deciding factors as to what relationships are legally recognized
  • A spokes person has said 'We have to end our existing relationships if we want official recognition of our gender and anyone who doesn't identify as either male or female has to lie when getting married

However, some corners of the world refuse to move on from their prejudice. For example in the work place,15 percent of Americans said it should be legal to refuse to hire someone because he/she is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender. Also in 34 states of the US it is still legal for people to be fired due to their sexual orientation, fortunately we don't have this in England.
There is a lot of controversy in Uganda and Russia at the moment, gay members of the public are being beaten to death practically and are being terrorised ,unfortunately there has been videos uploaded to YouTube of these degrading acts.
Below are examples of that.
UGANDA -LGBT - Uganda
RUSSIA - LGBT - Russia

Anyone can get hold of theses videos,YouTube is very accessible, especially to young children. We don't want the future generation growing up being told this is wrong and that this is the way you should be treated if you're gay/lesbian.
This leads me to my next point.
One YouTube there is a channel called 'The Fine Bro's' and on that channel they have a 'Kids react' which is young children reacting to different videos. Amongst these videos there is a 'kids react to gay marriage', if there's one thing you should watch today i suggest it is this, children can be very honest because they are very clean minded and haven't yet been corrupted by society.

Celebrity's have just as much as an input in this matter along side the general public and children. Being gay in the fame world has its downfalls. Celebs are normal people with abnormal lives, they still have feelings and celebrity's can be gay as well but because they're in the public eye they get slated a lot more for it,their private life is slashed all across the media and people can easily pick at that because of all the social media sites that are around in our day and age. Celebrity's who have a high status can have 'Beards' hired for them by their management as a cover up to there true sexuality, which is ludicrous, its technically lying to anyone who looks up to them.

There is a range of celebrity's that are gay,for example 'Matt Bomer,Neil Patrick Harris ,Lance Bass , Ellen DeGeneres,Ellen Page, the list is endless..

Marie Claire magazine has a special 'I DO' issue to support gay marriage, all with celebrity's saying that its right.

Are we finally starting to realise that being gay is not a crime and everyone deserves the honor of marriage? yes,i do hope so!
We as a country and a world as a whole are getting of our high horses and finally accepting the reality of today's society and that more and more people are gay and there's nothing they can do about it apart from stop being a moaning marge and let it happen.
Finito.
